Rating: - A Wondrous Journey
I first read this book when I was 19 years old back in 1990 and it has lost none of its power. Beautifully written, surprisingly moving and utterly spellbinding. DO NOT make the mistake of dismissing this as a simple horror fable as it is so much more than that. Many rate The Great And Secret Show as a better novel and although it is VERY GOOD I have to say Weaveworld is my personal favourite of Barkers work. Rating: - Flawed but worth a read
An ex bought this for me when it first came out and it has taken 20 years for me to get round to finishing it. 20 yearsd ago I gave up after a couple of chapters - I had better things to do than read a 720 page novel - e.g. change nappies, find a job, read to the kids at night.

To be honest I was attracted to to this book, my first Clive Barker, by the design of its cover. I picked it up and thought "Clive Barker? Oh I'm not sure, isn't he a horror writer? This was the first Clive Barker book I ever read and is still my favourite Barker.

The premise behind the book is that a magical world has been mystically woven into an intricate carpet to be kept safe in our world under the guardianship of a trusted keeper. Rating: - Pants at best!
I can not believe the number of favourable reviews for this book. It is boring!! Very little happens over the first 300 pages and then when the action began I just didn't care about the characters or the stupid carpet they are so concerned with. The presumed "baddie" is weak and not scary and her sidekick 'Shadwell' is hardly the stuff of nightmares.
Tedious, boring, too long, little in the way of horror and written in flowery prose more appropriate to a reader of Dickens than horror.
