Editorial Review:Amazon.co.uk Review:The gruff and surly Mr Thomas Oakley is less than pleased when he is landed with a scrawny little city boy as a guest, but because it is compulsory that each villager takes in an evacuee he reluctantly agrees. It soon becomes obvious to Mister Tom that young Willie Beech is hiding something, and as the pair begin to form an unlikely bond and Willie grows in stature and in confidence he begins to forget the past. But when he has to return to war-torn London to face his mother again he retreats into his shy and awkward ways once more.
Goodnight Mister Tom is one of the most touching and powerful stories ever written. As the relationship between Willie and Tom begins to transform them both, Magorian¹s powerful yet gentle writing tugs at the heart, taking the reader on an incredibly emotional journey that never once stoops to unnecessary sentimentality. --

We really enjoyed this book GOODNIGHT MISTER TOM because it's all based in World War 2. It's about an evacuee called William, also known as Willie; he is evacuated because there's load of bombings going off.
William was evacuated to a peaceful, lovely countryside. He got evacuated to Mister Tom Oakley who is lonely, he is a widower because his wife and son died in World War 1. After a while Tom notices that William is extremely quiet and anxious. In the book William goes to London because ...

I first read this book when I was younger. To this day I always come back to this powerful story. When I first started reading this story, I did not know how I would react to this story. Mister Tom at first appears to be standoffish. When the young boy Willie Beech arrives we slowly see his heart appearing. This book made me cry with laughter and cry with all the feelings you feel for Mister Tom and young Willie. I loved everything about this story telling. If you have not got a copy, then you are really ...

I picked this book off a shelf out of boredom, but once read I immediately went to get a copy for myself.
It's wrong that this book can only be found in children's section in bookshops, so many more people will and have enjoyed this book of all ages. It's a wonderful story that I adore and has a pride place of my elite bookshelf, and I'm very picky about the books I place on it.

This is one of the few books that I will always enjoy reading and also one of the few books that managed to get a tear or two out of me. Though I've already read it, I couldn't help but buy the book as I wouldn't have felt right without owning it. The feelings it got from me and the fact that I couldn't put it down at one moment made it great. The characters are very well done, I especially love the main characters as well as Zach.
This is a good book, a good read. A definite recommend.

I think goodnight Mister Tom was a pleasent read but sometimes I felt like the story wasn't going anywhere sometimes. Michelle Magorian has thought up some interesting characters and used them in interesting ways.
My classmates and I read this book during class and i think its much better than doing work.
