One of the great classics, the literature used in this novel is superb! I'm only half way through but i thought... Heck! I'll write one now!

I can understand the mixed reaction that this book has provoked. The story is wonderful, with a theme both elemental and mythical: in mid-century, mid-western America, a carnival sets up outside the town of Greentown promising fun and laughter under the night sky but in truth the lights and attractions are simply lures to draw the weak willed and susceptible. I brought this book because it's supposed to be a classic, and though the idea of an "evil carnival" seemed a bit cliche to me, I was hoping that the author would take the idea and do something original and interesting with it.
Instead, all the author did was bore me until I gave up at about page 100. The characters were unlikeable, flat, boring, cardboard cut-outs. I cared nothing for any of them. The plot was bizzare (but not in a good kinda way) and seemed to go nowhere. And the ...

Bradbury manages a neat trick in "Something Wicked", setting down rich, often incredibly beautiful prose whilst not letting the pace slacken a jot. I really wouldn't describe the style as pretentious, as the reviewer below has done... The author is far too muscular a writer to ever be accused of that. He writes with thumping confidence and control. I for one found it easy to suspend my disbelief even at the more whimsical turns of phrase.
