Editorial Review:Product Description:When the standard lightbulb was invented, naturally, we applauded. But science means progress - and the world is now looking for alternative ways to light up our homes. This is one of the best we've found. Inside the Sun Jar is a highly efficient solar cell, a rechargeable battery and three low energy LED lamps. When the jar is placed in direct sunlight, the solar cell creates an electrical current that charges the battery over a few hours. When it gets dark or lights are turned off, this energy powers the three natural-coloured LED lamps inside the jar. The frosted glass of the jar then diffuses the light, giving the appearance of trapped sunlight.

I was given a sun jar recently, and it really is absolutely beautiful. There isn't enough light to read by, but the glow it gives is so very comforting and cosy, and for atmospheric mood lighting, I can't imagine anything nicer. It makes a wonderful nightlight - very warm and soothing, and because it doesn't plug into the wall, you don't need to worry about frying your lampshades or wasting electricity.
Its being a jar very much adds to the romance of it; almost as if you went on a picnic ...

I can't give this 5 stars, because I was honestly hoping for a little more light. I really wanted something to read by, and there is no way this is bright enough.

It does give a welcoming glow left on a windowledge, and is attractive enough to leave on the windowledge to charge up. I've used it as lighting whilst watching TV in an ...

I was recently given a sun jar as a birthday present and I love it. It sits in my front window, which gets the sunlight during the day, and many of my neighbours have said how cosy it is to see it glowing away there after dark! I am planning to get one for the back garden now as well, and a couple more as Christmas presents.

This is really cool. It would make a great gift for anyone especially the eco-conscious. It looks unusual, is a talking point for guests and it saves on electricity. I might get a few more and make a feature of them. You can even use them outside as they are waterproof.

This has a very nice feel to it (proper frosted glass, not plastic, and a satisfyingly chunky lid). The glow is orangey, so it's no good for reading etc. but would be really nice to just give some general lighting when outside in the evening at the end of a summer's day, or in a conservatory/garden room, or just on a patio.
