I've been listening to Jackson Browne since the sixties (yes, I'm really old), and first encountered him with blonde chanteuse Nico. Since then, I've seen him in concert many times, and enjoyed his music constantly, so you could say I'm an admirer. I still like to think I have critical faculties, and I was a bit concerned when I read early reviews of this album. However, now having bought it and played it a few times, I needn't have worried. No-one can capture the mood of a time like Jackson Browne. ...

When i read a lot of average reviews for this album, I hesitated buying it.
Two weeks after the release date i bought it!!
TIME THE CONQUEROR has a superbly sparse production, has 10 excellent songs and as you'd expect, JB's Singing is still as fresh and youthful as ever.
So these people that have called these 10 new songs average or worst, have not given this album a good listen too, 'cos it is a grower.
The only negative thing i'd say about this CD is "Get rid of the goatee Jackson"

I'm a life long fan and have every album except "Lawyers in Love", which, until "Time the Conqueror"was released, I thought was the nadir of his career. Nope, its all been said before and, mostly, by Browne himself. Still, you cant expect continual perfection even from one of the seminal singer/songwriters of the last 50 years. Go and get "World in Motion" for the political, "I'm Alive" for the best love album of all his works and second only to "Late For The Sky" - the best album he's ever done. But, if you ...

So it's not his best album, as some people have suggested. What are you expecting for goodness sake! If you want a superb JB album get his early stuff. Why do people try and judge his work on what has gone before? JB is not an underrated singer/writer as someone comments. He is extremely highly rated, and so he should be.
This work is well worth having in your collection. It's JB 'now' and there are some very good songs. It certainly is not overproduced. I give this album 3 stars purely on the basis ...

On first listen I was unsure but having now lived with the album for nearly a week it has really grown on me. The opening track is definately one of the best things Jackson has written, love the melody and the chorus is intantly memorable. Each track reveals different aspects of his song writing, political and personal. Another stand-out is Drums Of War with it's political overtones and haunting lyrics. Not his best but definatley enjoyable and certainly much better than his last outing.
