This game is so close to perfect that you might be able to ignore its few tiny flaws (the gun cover system, graphics up-close) and call it perfect anyway! This is simply the most engaging, fun, beautiful and sublime game I have ever played! The main story alone can take between 30-40 hours to complete if you really invest in it. After that you can spend hours exploring the huge city. Not to mention the online multiplayer. Everyone simply has to play this game!!

I cant help but feel some people have missed what i consider two of the greatest elements of gta iv which elevate to the top tier of gaming. Firstly, I felt it had a great cinematic feel to it. More than any game i care to mention I became emotionally attached to the main protagonist. The plot is solid and the way it is told is excellent. I have seen many movies with less than half of the cinematography of this game. Secondly, the attention to detail. Yes, some elements have been removed in comparison to previous incarnations of gta, but what they have left has been taken to what i can describe as the end point (i cant see anybody bettering it). Take the tv for example, there is over an hour of very funny stuff on there, the comedy shoes are excellent, the driving mechanic puts many driving games to shame... the list goes on. If I was having an discussion whether or not games are art I used to mention stylistic classics such as jet set radio, killer 7 or gameplay classics (list could be a million). I genuinely feel this game is artistical and mechanical perfection. In my humble opinion, the most riveting, exciting, compelling and addictive media based entertainment that has ever been made. A must purchase.

You 'll play it, you'll like it, you won't regret buy it, but my friend, when you are wondering what is it, that it lucks, this "je ne sais pas", let me open your eyes, lonely friend, sitting in front of your giant HDTV.
IT IS NOT A CULT GAME. It's mainstream this one. After 5 years the world is not the shame. And save some mormon/evangelist or the Mothers United, no one else is shocked or even at the least moved by what the GTA is putting out there.
And it's not just the frame that has changed.
The Soundtrack is not CULT.
Your character is NOT as CULT as it could be, given the Serbian nature.
You don't get all the picko, and the pusi kurac you'd want from him.
There is not a good amount of Greeks. This context called for Greeks.
The Game is not CULT. It's a mainstream, well made sandbox game. Nothing more than that unfortunately.
Doesn't mean it's not better than a WHOLE BUNCH of games out there.
Definitely worth buying, playing, and re-playing.
Just not a classic. Certainly not a potato.

Read loads of mixed opinions from reviewers on here since it was released in April, but decided to wait till all the hype went away before I said what I think.
Right, first of all love all the GTA games so going to be a bit biased. Some random new things that I like about this is the way you can hear the radio from your vehicle when you are not in it, the echo sound of your vehicle when you drive under a bridge, seeing other get arrested for attacking you, the sat nav, taking a cab, the new vigilante cop sytem, advertising the city through television (loved this but would be brilliant with loads of hilarious adverts like vice city radio).
Things I don't like are darts (way too easy and no challenge), ten pin bowling (again too easy and no challenge). I just prefer the things to do in San Andreas like gambling, sky diving, mountain bike racing etc etc. Dating I don't like and only did it in San Andreas for the extra uniforms. I don't like the so called realness of this either for example the vehicles. A lot of reviewers have moaned about the vehicles being more difficult to handle, but I don't find them difficult just much less fun than than the previous gtas.
Another thing I don't like is that there seems to be loads of missions where you take on loads of gangs and take them on by yourself (which makes me laugh when people say this is more realistic than previous gtas) but these missions can sometimes take ages, thats what I find personally annoying about them.
Sorry if my review sounds really negative but its only because I love the gta games so much. I do still really like this game and still give it five stars but not as much as vice city and san andreas which I still occasionaly play and still never fail to enjoy. This is the first gta game of this generation like 3 was of the last generation but without the wow factor of that game, so the next one should be something special.
What I would love for a future gta game is to be set in vice city and san andreas again but with modern graphics with all the good things from this and back to the fun feel of old (vehicle handling and sillyness etc.) mixed with seasonal weather. I would love a seasonal weather and a day/date/month sytem, halloween, bonfire night, christmas etc, drunken santas like in bully. Animals and children would be great because they add to the realism. If this is a problem then why not make it so they can't get hurt, unrealistic but so what, another essential for me would be to ride horses, blow up buildings and watch them magically appear five minutes later, again unrealistic but thats what I loved about gta in the first place. I could go on and on about the things I would like in a future gta, but I am supposed to commenting on gta 4 (sorry). So overall still love gta 4, but found it less enjoyable than previous gtas.

I've had GTA 4 for about a week now, and quite frankly, I'm bored of it already. In fact, I almost feel guilty that I've only completed about 40% of the game, but its too much of an effort to even turn on the console. I remember buying San Andreas the day it came out and playing the game solid for about a month. It was fun to play and there was so much to do, so if I had some free time, I looked forward to playing it. I can't say the same for GTA 4 unfortunately. In fact, in my opinion its a step down from San Andreas, although it probably is a bit better than Vice. There's less fun, the missions are extremely repetitive and after a while you just get bored with everything about the game. People have said that the game is realistic, but believe me its not, and others have said there's more stuff to do, but again thats a load of rubbish. Not only is there very little new about the game, but there's less stuff to do than in San Andreas. What the hell happened?!!! Now if your a GTA fan reading this review, then there's no point in me telling you not to buy it, because you will. I'm just sharing my opinion on the whole matter. Unless the game somehow picks up, all I can say is that the people who rated this as 5 star must have very very boring lives. Its the only reason I can give for someone that finds this game fun and exciting. Waste of money!!!
